Teaming Up With Raising the Bridge

The Mesquite Police Association is teaming up with Raising the Bridge to help and assist at risk youth in Mesquite. The following article is from the Mesquite News via Star Local Media.

Raising the Bridge (RTB) has partnered with the city of Mesquite to build the first youth center in the city, a goal Raising the Bridge CEO and Executive Director Andrew Morris has long dreamed of.

“We’ll get to work directly with the city of Mesquite to ensure that we provide a space, a resource, a center, just for our youths ages 12-18 in Mesquite,” said Chief Operating Officer Nicole Morris.

The center will provide local youth with life skills programs, recreation and community involvement opportunities. It will also serve as a drop-in center for homeless youth, providing food, clothing and a free laundry center.

The Raising the Bridge Youth Center will also provide space for the Mesquite Police Association to gather and meet on a weekly basis. Their presence will provide security for youth and staff, according to RTB.

Andrew Morris said the youth center will provide the support for teens that don’t have it at home. His hope is that the youth center will eventually expand to help youth in surrounding communities outside of Mesquite and will be around long after he’s gone.

The 14,000-square-foot youth center is planned for 1717 McKenzie Road.

According to the RTB website, space will be allocated for private offices for staff, Mesquite Police Association, sustainable life skill programs, reading / study / homework area, music studio, car garage, teen drop-in center food and clothing pantry and recreations, as well as dedicated rooms for workshops.
