Mesquite Dispatch Saves Boy’s Life

Mesquite dispatcher credited with saving boy who suffered heatstroke.

Russell answered a 911 call from a cellphone just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, the city of Mesquite said on Facebook. The 14-year-old boy who called “could not be heard or understood,” so Russell used new technology to determine the boy’s location and dispatch firefighters.

Mesquite police Chief Charles Cato commended Russell’s effort.The boy was treated at a hospital and released.

“We could not be more proud of Christy and the poise she displayed in getting this caller the help he desperately needed,” he said.

Cato also noted that as temperatures and the heat index continue to rise, the public should take care and stay cool.
