We recently lost a loved one in our police family. Kody Rough, son of Sergeant Rough, was tragically killed in a car accident this week.
After hearing about the death of Kody Rough, we all wondered what we could do or say that would bring comfort and peace to the Rough family. What do you say to a family that has lost two children in such a tragic way? It’s just unimaginable that they are having to deal with such a heartbreaking loss. Again. Our first reaction is always to reach out and offer sympathy, give words of comfort, send up prayers, and let them know we are here if they need anything at all. We buy flowers for the funeral, we take food to the church, and we continue to pray.
These are all beautiful traditions, but we just feel like it isn’t enough. We found out that Kody’s parents had previously started a foundation after their daughter Meagan’s death in 2012. Meagan tragically lost her life in a car accident after being hit by a drunk driver. Meagan’s Foundation has been their passion for awhile now; striving to make a difference in the world and honoring their daughter at the same time. We have decided to raise money for this organization, the Meagan Rough Memorial Foundation, and donate the money in the name of Kody Rough. We believe this will be a beautiful dedication to both children, and give us all a chance to feel less helpless during this difficult time.
We have created a link on the MPA website where people can donate using a credit card. No amount is too small. We are also working on some fundraisers, including a raffle, that we will be sending an email out about soon. If you have any connections that might be willing to donate something of value to raffle, that would be amazing. So far we have Lieutenant Hensley making one of his famous hand crafted knives, and we have 2 tickets to a Dallas Stars game. Please share this with your friends and family can donate as well.
